Little Rock has a Class 2 fire
rating, with 391 paid firefighters. The department operates 20
fire stations, with 21 engine pump companies, 8 ladder
companies, 4 rescue squads and 3 crash crews, all Class A
equipped.
North Little Rock operates under a
mayor-alderman form of government.
The police department employs 200
officers and 116 radio-equipped patrol cars, among other
vehicles.
The city has a Class 2 fire rating

units of equipment.
Pulaski County operates under the
County Judge - Quorum Court form of government. The court is
composed of 15 members elected from the same number of single
member districts drawn within the county.
The Pulaski County Sheriff's
Department provides protection with 480 deputies and support
personnel, of which 332 officers operate the county
correctional facility, and 96 radio-equipped vehicles.
Approximately 21 volunteer fire
departments serve areas other than Little Rock, North Little
Rock, and Jacksonville.
The Little Rock Air Force Base, a
Military Airlift Command facility, is located seventeen miles
north of Little Rock in Jacksonville. The 6,000-acre facility
is valued at $4 billion and the land was donated to the Air
Force in 1951 by the citizens of Arkansas. Strategic Air
Command opened the base four years later and in April, 1970,
the 134th Tactical Airlift Wing with its C-130 Hercules cargo
transport aircraft, made its home at Little Rock. On December
1, 1991 under Air Force reorganization, the wing was
re-designated the 314th Airlift Wing.
